Education | Musical Theatre Summer Intensive

“[This program] has been an invaluable part of my childrens’ development and self-esteem. The love of the arts, particularly theatre, has been embedded in their lives. — Ava C., Delaware

The Musical Theatre Summer Intensive (Grades 1-12) is an exciting two-week experience for students who love to perform! Taught by professional educators and performers, it builds self-confidence through challenging, but attainable, age-appropriate performing arts activities and ends with a spectacular public performance.

NEW! The Acting Summer Intensive (Grades 2-8) is an exciting one-week program for students who are interested in a concentrated study of acting. Spend the day using your imagination to bring characters to life. Professional actors and educators lead 50-minute classes in body use, speaking, making good acting choices and how to work onstage with others. All activities lead to a final performance that showcases the students’ new acting skills.

Conveniently located near the resort towns of Lewes & Rehoboth Beach, DE, the Intensives not only offer a secure, air-conditioned learning environment at the Beacon Middle School but also the unique opportunity to combine a summer study program with a family vacation!

Clear Space will be accepting registrations for students beginning in January, 2010 for these great camps which include high-quality instruction by arts education professionals, as well as age-appropriate acting or vocal selections and production numbers surrounding a one- or two-week concentrated study of Acting or Musical Theatre.

The Musical Theatre Summer Intensive was begun by Ken Skrzesz in 1993 to serve students of Howard County, Maryland. Since then, more than 2,000 students have participated in the Intensive which remains active in Baltimore County, and now, Sussex County, Delaware.

  • The Intensive culminates in two performances on the final Thursday.
  • The Musical Theatre Summer Intensive is taught by highly qualified performing artists and playwrights who are also arts educators.
  • Each group is assigned a leader who is a high-school or college student who has demonstrated professional commitment, talent, and interest in a performance-related program.
  • Students receive information at a fast rate, on a daily basis, throughout the Intensive. The information they receive allows them to participate in the final presentations with self-confidence and enthusiasm. With this goal in mind, it is important to commit to allowing your child to attend each full day of the Intensive.
  • Each student receives two tickets to one performance of their choosing. Other tickets may be purchased on a first-come basis.
  • Although tickets are provided to only one performance, students are expected to participate in both performances.

Policies

  • There is a low-tolerance policy for behavior issues during the Musical Theatre Summer Intensive. The Intensive is intended for students who are interested and motivated to learn about the arts. Most often, behavior is an issue for students who have not shown a willingness to participate but have been registered anyway.  Students with behavior problems that affect the learning and enjoyment of other students will be dismissed from the Intensive without a refund.
