“Do not follow where the path may lead.
Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
Only those who will risk going too far
can possibly find out how far one can go.”

Clear Space Productions began in 2004 with a press release in the Cape Gazette asking for community input. Thirty people gathered at the Rehoboth Beach Library to share their ideas about what could be done to enhance the performing arts in the Lewes and Rehoboth communities. The agenda was set and we were off on the first leg of our adventure.

Donations were received, tickets were sold and area residents committed to the concept that quality arts and arts education could change a community. Over the past five years tickets sales have sky-rocketed to an amazing 21,000 seats sold in 2009. Our Arts Institute has brought the joy of the performing arts to thousands of children while our Outreach programs have entertained thousands of audience members throughout Delmarva.

Three years ago a partnership was formed with the Cape Henlopen School District that included instituting a Theatre Arts Academy at Cape Henlopen High School. Unfortunately, a Cost Benefit Analysis performed at the end of the third semester (January, 2010) revealed that there was too much disparity between the 12% contribution made by the Cape District to the Clear Space budget and the 50% use of Clear Space manpower and resources to manage the Theatre Arts Academy. This analysis, as well as divergent goals and philosophies and facility challenges, motivated the Clear Space Board of Directors to end the organization’s involvement with the Cape Theatre Arts Academy. While we are saddened to leave the students, we know that it is time to alter our working relationship to give way to new and exciting opportunities for both Clear Space and the Cape Henlopen School District.

In the meantime, we are looking toward the future. Clear Space is now poised for creative programming for arts lovers of all ages. New classes and performances, an innovative look at our upcoming season and a fresh approach to community connections will propel us forward.

Thank you for your continued support. As always, we look forward to seeing you at the theatre…
